In his book, “Music: Its Secret Influence Throughout the Ages,” the composer and Theosophist Cyril Scott explained that the Devas, as heaven’s HR, direct humanity’s spiritual path via music. For example, in this view, Chopin invented the 19th century in all its manifestations—aesthetic, political, and spiritual—derived from the wordless notions put in people’s minds by his music. I’ve always loved the idea, given the influence Chopin had on me.
It got me wondering whether the Devas had cottoned on to perfume. How would we know? Masculine fragrances seem like a good place to start because they are typically simple things made for simple minds. What do the Devas want? Once the major societal goals are set by music (heroism by Beethoven, reproduction by Sinatra, urbanity by Piazzolla), they can focus on channelling male activity in useful ways.
