Aēsop is an Australian outfit that makes fragrances and beauty products. The aesthetic is luxuriously austere, a million miles from the usual luxury goods glitz. Everything is dark, plain, solid and minimal. When you walk into their store you feel like you’re in the dispensary at Bene Gesserit headquarters. The sales attendants wear no makeup and do not recite fragrance patter. Over the years I’ve used their fragrances (and Aveda’s) as palate-cleansers and bivouacs, because they smell clean and restful.
