I had no clear picture in my mind of CH as a fashion designer, and the one I did have turned out to be wrong. I pictured a buttercup-yellow bolero and white polkadots on navy, so I was probably thinking Givenchy. My understanding of fashion has always been dodgy, but there is an additional extenuating circumstance. In the ‘80s, I lived in Nice, an oddly fashion-free zone dedicated to white jeans, gold ballet flats and vast sunglasses amid streaked hair. As a result, I missed shoulderpads, punk rock and many other essential things, which in company can make make me look like I served time.
The Herrera stand in the local grand perfume store is a mess, carrying three different lines with very different looks, none particularly sorted. The high-heeled Good Girl bottle is at least recognizable. I was trying to figure out which shoe the Bad Boy line depicted until the sales attendant explained it was a lightning bolt.
