I broke my own rules and met Scout Dixon West before writing reviews of her fragrances. My excuse is that only two out of her three fragrances reached me before I traveled to Los Angeles, where I met up with a group of perfume aficionados, including West, for lunch. There was some uncool-adolescent shyness on my part at the prospect of meeting someone presentable enough to do TikTok perfume reviews while being a successful country singer and art directing three fragrances, all things I am variously incapable of. She turned out to be reassuringly charming and smart, with a day job as a movie scriptwriter. I now have to review her fragrances with all this in mind, and I feel like a member of a jury instructed by the judge to ignore what theyโve read in the papers.
