I would be very much interested to hear what you have to say regarding the whole H24 line and the various Twilly flankers that have come out in recent years. In particular, Tutti Twilly is quite a drastic spin on the original, building a brand new lychee accord on top of the original tuberose.
My impression too. But then I suspect that the far more intriguing earlier Galop tanked, so Nagel must have been given a strict brief.
The focus group panel behind the perfume appears to have been composed by women who dream to buy a bright pink Hermes Birkin bag and the (costume?) dog collar jewelry of the house, to which I am told the bottle is inspired. It is a large demographic group, so I suspect the perfume will do well.
Didn’t JCE say there was no focus group at Hermès, it was just him and the director of the perfume department that decided things? Something must have changed then.
You're very likely right, of course. I don't know what happens at Hermes-mine was just a guess based on how the perfume smells to me.
Everything evidently was in the brief, which must have included the words fruit, sweet, and pastel color. It might or might not have included the word suede-my guess is that the name and the dog collar must have come later from the marketing department.
No idea on the actual sales, but here in the US Le Galop only had a very limited distribution (even more limited than the Hermessences, I would say), and I don't recall seeing it anywhere this year. I saw Barenia at Nordstrom-it will be interesting to see if the distribution expands further to the likes of Sephora.
This perfume's name gave me such a strong sense of deja vu (or deja entendu to be accurate) that I assumed it was a re-release of an old Hermes fragrance I forgot about. Then I remembered...my mother used to wear a perfume named Barynia in the 80s. It brought back memories of the beautiful bottle with its polyhedral red stopper and the scent that smelled to me mature and passe' even then.
I tried this also a couple of weeks back and had a very similar impression to you. I am not overly enthusiastic about the change from JCE to Nagel - perhaps JCE simply appealed to me like no one else in terms of overall aesthetics and consistent language. I am curious what you may think of the Paddock exclusive limited edition - I have not had the pleasure but it sounds like a much more experimental thing than the commercial ones that have been coming out of Hermes in the past few years with H24, Barenia, and Twilly.
Please review other newer Hermes fragrances composed my Nagel. I think she’s does some good work with the Hermessence collection, but I would like to know your thoughts. Also, I like H24, but it is very polarizing among fragrance fans.
As for Galop, and it small commercial success - got a bottle last week from Hermès in Zürich. According to sales rep it was last bottle on stock. Under closer inspection at home, the batch was more than two years old. It tells me, that inventory turnover is rather slow.
I had heard from someone that there was a strong tobacco note in this. Since I am highly allergic to anything tobacco, I stopped paying attention. Sad to read there is even more reasons to not pay attention to it. I love the idea of Hermes fragrances to go with those scarves, but I have not come across a single one I connect with.

Will smell, thank you.
More cassis base than lychee... and very deja vu.

Galop was weird and wonderful. I did not realize it was a commercial flop...
Did Galop tank? I thought it was successful judging by many positive reviews...
This is just a guess based on the US distribution. But perhaps it did well in Europe.

As a classic/ chypre ánd Hermes lover( 24 Faubourg in special) I was soooooo exited to try this! Never been sooooo dissapointed🙈😂

Same here, I too remembered Barynia!
You didn't find some similarities with Galop? To me it smelled like they mix Twilly and Galop together...

She is indeed a great perfumer.
Thank you for trying this one so I didn't have to.
I wish I got tobacco that would've been interesting at least. It was all fruity floral on me. 🫤
Barénia - not bad, not great.

Interesting. I need to buy a bottle of Galop asap in case they discontinue ... Though do Hermes ever discontinue perfumes?
The bottle is pretty. Thank you for the review so I don't have to bother sniffing.
