Such an interesting turn of events! Also I can not help dreaming of how the original jewelry looked like.
I was fortunate enough to receive a few old Austro Hungarian pieces from a friend of mine who inherited the real stash. Her great grandfather was a count.
So interesting! At least you know much about your family's past, good, bad...especially love the mention by the divine Dante! It was common for families to have paste copies made of expensive jewels for wear, while the real stuff was kept in a vault. I'd have worn it with pride and dared anyone to call me on it.
Great story. In the province of Novara (where I was born) there is a village called Mandello Vitta. On Wikipedia (to be taken as is), it claims the name owes to the fact that it was founded by said Rubaconte. Apparently, before becoming podesta of Florence, Rubaconte had shown his skills as podesta' of several Italian towns including Novara. There exists also a Mandello Lario, on Lake Como-relations to the Mandelli family unknown.
Yes, I saw he was podestร in Novara! Re: Mandello Lario, I haven't been ablo to figure it out exactly but there is a definite connection. This is a good time for historians, so much stuff is online.
Oh my heart, to have family in the Divine Comedy?! Now I know what jealousy feels like! Thatโs so deliciously wonderful.

They are absolutely breath taking.
I suspect they would have been hard to wear.
Hmmm... No piece of jewelry should be hard to wear, unfortunately in our days there's almost nowhere to go to justify wearing such precious treasures.
Probably easier to say theyโre fakesโฆ
People would not suspect otherwise anyway
A Dante shout out! ๐๐
Not with the celebs in hell, but still...

More fortunes gained & lost - the drama of life
Beautiful memoir writing and it maintains interest, which is as hard to achieve as to make a good perfume.
Thank you.
