Luca Turin is one of my favorite writers- not โ€œfragrance writersโ€- just โ€œwritersโ€. And even though I was tricked into purchasing a subscription to substack thinking he had written all about lavender scents, I am pretty happily duped.

A version of what a friendโ€™s Long Island mother used to say applies here: โ€œThey get you hooked on the lavender so then you gotta keep coming back for the writingโ€ฆโ€

Iโ€™ve searched sooo hard for the Caldey Islands Monks (were they monks?) Lavender you praised sooo much in the Guide! No way. Not even last september in South Englandโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Caldey Island was reformulated. The original perfumer died, the monks wanted to buy the recipe, the price was too high, and they had it redone by another perfumer who screwed it up completely. This one is really good.

Thatโ€™s a dramatic reformulation story

Anyone know if this is available in the United States? I would love to try some. I am looking for a lavender scent that doesnโ€™t have that harsh blast I get from lavender essential oil. I love lavender and mint.

No idea, but at least it's real lavender.
