As it happens, while my readers were recommending Marie Jeanne perfumes, Bloom Perfumery was sending me samples of two. The brand had been on my mind for months already, because I have been using a stack of excellent smelling strips printed with their name, though I forget how they came to me.
Marie Jeanne was founded by Georges Maubert, scion of the family that owns Robertet, one of the great Grasse perfumery firms. He created the brand to showcase high-quality naturals in what they call “simple” compositions. Mercifully, these are not all-natural, and the website is refreshingly frank about compositions and raw materials. Honesty, not wild narcissus absolute, is arguably the rarest thing in Grasse1. Marie Jeanne should be commended. The two samples Bloom Perfumery sent, both roses, are enough to make me want to smell the entire collection. Tania’s immediate reaction across the room was, “That smells expensive!”
