The iris smells like one I have to smell.

I must admit I keep trying (again & again) Nicolai scents but I think there is something about the base (or her style) that doesn't smell 'right' on my skin.

Still, I know you are a fan Luca. So I must try this iris!

I love the mind - the intellect- behind Patricia De Nicolai’s work. I get that relieving sensation one experiences when you realize the dinner guest you’ve been seated next to is a no-nonsense smarty pants- and you’re going to have lots to talk about all evening.

I have gone through two bottles of L’Eau Chic. It’s what I want to smell like in summer. It’s got the breezy cool of a quickly moving tennis game. My hope is that there’s a perfume strength scent by De Nicolai that approximates it that I just haven’t tried yet (or that a slightly more intense version is somehow in the works and somehow doable without ruining it.).

I’ve heard L’eau Mixte has some similarity and more longevity.

Maybe impermanence is the point.

She is definitely a no-nonsense person of great skill. I hope she is training someone of talent to take over eventually.

What, no comments here? Nicolaï is truly wonderful perfume, but indeed staid luxury. It’s hard to understand how it hasn’t caught the consumer imagination the way a firm like Goutal has. Is it the square bottles rather than softly rounded? No bows?

I really like the 1 ml bottles, just the right amount. I bought Iris Medicis at their shop on Rue Richelieu this summer, taken in by the beautiful art on the box (purple iris) and the mix with light leather, and also the fact that it was introduced just that week, but I do not like it that much in the end. To me, the new Odalisque is more a replacement for the lost Le Temps d’Une Fete than for the old Odalisque. Sacrebleu is so beautiful, and Cap Neroli…I can’t describe the way Luca does but to me it’s a wonderful mix of Private Collection and a good citrus cologne, it’s a wonderfully robust springtime scent. I think Cap Neroli is my favorite but it’s more interesting than beautiful. It’s just so easy to wear on cold spring days like now, and has very good staying power. Nicolaï has very good home scents, too, the room sprays last forever and are high quality. You truly get your money’s worth with Nicolaï

I have to say, my first sniffs of the new Odalisque were disappointing after finishing my bottle of the old, but I’ve finally been wearing it this week after reading Luca’s Nicolai post here, and actually it’s still gorgeous as time moves on. Now it’s an amazing mix of Lily of the valley and bright chypre. I’m really enjoying wearing it even if it’s not quite as opulent as it was.

Thanks for the update on odalisque and the fact it's still good in the end-something i need to try then!

I bought iris medicis shortly after it came out too. Gorgeous on paper, as per Luca's description. On my skin, though, a heavy floral orange blossom dominates. Still a very elegant floral, but not my style.

Yes, there’s sniffing and then there’s wearing.
