Enjoy it! I've been to Baku in 2018. I enjoyed it, but found a distinct divide in the quality of the buildings depending on the area, I guess like most cities, but especially more in capital cities in the Middle East and such places. I know this well because I spent my childhood in a Middle Eastern city.
And yes the food is excellent. The museum is truly magnificent to witness. Have a great time.
We ended up travelling to Georgia after visiting Baku. That was a country to behold!
"If not, I may be crossing Turkey from East to West in buses and will be some time." In that case, dear Luca, I hope you'll bring your tablet with you, so we don't go hungry for too long!
To this solely literary traveller (Thubron, Raban, Theroux, Newby et al) your plans are both resourceful and intrepid. Bon courage in returning safely.
I'm looking forward to hearing about your trip, especially the food! Please share some photos of Ms. Hadid's amazing architecture and the food if you can. Thanks!
I'm a diasporic Turk (by no choice of my own), brought to and raised in Canada as a snivelling baby by my well-meaning parents. Wish I could go on a trip like this! Enjoy the food!

I knew a wonderful dog called Baku years ago. He was large and shaggy and sweet.

I suggest going to Turkey via Georgia...avoid the Nagorno Karabakh region for obvious reasons. And Georgia is wonderful.
When are you going there, Luca?
There now!
