Loved using Irish Spring as a teenager when it first came onto the market, also loved the scent of the original Shower to Shower body powder which appeared around the same time. These days I prefer unscented shower gels followed by a few sprays of Acqua di Parma Essenza hither and yon.

Shower to Shower! I’ve got to see if it brings my grandma back so to speak, must check eBay. She always wore red lipstick and nails but I don’t know what she did for perfume, sadly, but Shower to shower was something she used regularly.

Maybe you’ve done this already, but it’d be fun to get your thoughts on other common, inexpensive or overlooked classics.

Ever since you planted the idea of No 19 soap in my head (many years ago,) I have done the occasional chanel.com and ebay search for it. No luck at Chanel but always a bar or two on ebay. What say you to buying "vintage" soap? I find fresh soap to be occasionally lackluster (though not the new No 5 bars which I adore.)

My experience is that the soap itself ages faster than the fragrance in it. Check that it's not discolored or cracked.

Is that so? *strokes chin* I shall reconsider.

(my heart is racing a little bit at the thought of No 19-scented linens.)

Thank you.

Sublime!! I feel the same way about Cleopatra soap (a Middle Eastern Dove) functional spicy fresh which never disappoints. Absolute bathroom bullion. A nice fellow in Bahrain will happily ship the real McCoy to UK via eBay and will even pop a fancy packet of crisps in the package to make you forget how much you’ve just paid 😅

Is this something I need to buy for my husband (please forgive my ingenue Q;)?

He is innately more of "let me buy that 5-in-1 formula for $4.99 in Walmart" kind of guy regarding cosmetics, but he does like Aventus for him.

Hi Luca, new follower from Guatemala here. Your books and talks have been inspirational. So excited to get more of your insights here!

I recently got a 30ml of Mousse Illuminée by Rogue Perfumery. Lovely tree moss bomb that I read you also enjoyed. I’ve never tried Irish Spring but have seen people describe Mousse Illuminée as reminiscent of the soap. Would you agree?

My oldest son’s favorite. Even when I was making my own soap with all manner of decadent oils and butters and essential oils - he still wanted this. And to this day it’s his soap. He said the only one that leaves him feeling truly clean.

I just keep picturing the commercial with the manly man cutting a sliver of soap off with his buck knife.

I feel compelled to share this bit of pop culture from my youth. If you say to any American Gen Xer "Manly, yes..." they will finish the quote, I guarantee you.

Sorry this soap doesn’t cut it for me, but I’m totally with Tania on the Nivea creme she mentioned somewhere.

After you mentioned this soap in one of your reviews I bought 20 of them. They’re super cheap here in Poland. Is there a difference between the two? I bought the same as in the left corner of your picture. It’s great. I have 20 of bars of La Toja also, I like both, thanks for the recommendation 😇

Hi Mateusz I will check for any difference, particularly since it's supposedly reformulated...

I checked. Yes they do smell different, the one with the slanted writing smells stronger and sweeter...

Do you think that reformulated version is bad or do you still enjoy it?

Thank you for your service 🫡 I have the other one and it’s still STRONG and smells nice, but I think I’ll buy the one with slanted writing to compare 🤔
