Toskovat (in Russian тосковать , to yearn) is a perfume brand started in 2022 by a young Romanian guy, David-Lev Jipa-Slivinschi, who explains in an interview that he considers his work to be not perfume proper, but instead stories told via smell. He apparently was a filmmaker who got into perfume during the pandemic. He exudes that mixture of energy and street-savvy that makes successful entrepreneurs. His fragrances (let’s call them that for the moment) are clearly intended as épate-bourgeois¹, with shocking top notes and gothic ingredient lists followed up by law-abiding behavior, as is generally the case with goths.
